Sometimes there is no “right” answer…Hmm…
If you are reading this, I’m fairly certain that you know that I will never be mistaken for a “morning person.” Point in fact, most people post their blog messages early in the day so that their followers can read upon waking. Mine can only be considered early posts for folks that live on some island at the far eastern reaches of the Pacific Ocean. 😂
The battle over my preferred hours has been life-long. I’m 52 years old, and have even recently been subjected to a lecture by each of my parents about why I should wake up early enough to watch the sunrise. For the two of them, witnessing that phenomena is one of the most important parts of their day. They cannot fathom the idea that I have no interest in waking up that early. The exception would be when I was leaving on a vacation somewhere and had a very early departure. Then, I would gladly arise with the roosters!
I enjoy a beautiful sunset, and I enjoy the hours that follow one. I even enjoy darkness. Since I was a child, one of my favorite times to walk has been after dark. I don’t do it often these days. Living in town, nighttime walks seem dangerous. In the country and even in the mountains, I simply adore a nighttime stroll. The usual sounds of busy life are muted, moonlight and starlight are gentle on the eyes. It’s quite honestly one of my favorite things to do, during one of my favorite times of the day. 🤪 I just had a moment of hilarity as I imagined some of your faces while thinking about hiking in the dark! I know my parents’ response would be quite entertaining to see.
I’m sure that by now everyone is wondering why I’m contemplating sunrise versus sunset today. I’m not actually sure myself. Perhaps it’s because, no matter which side of the issue you fall on, you are right. There is no wrong answer to the question - Which is better, sunrise or sunset? Someone could respond that they enjoy both equally, and even that response would be correct! Isn’t it wonderful to find a situation where your personal opinion can be disputed, but is never actually found to be wrong? Of course, my parents will probably never cease their attempts to sway me to the “dark” sunrise side, but that’s okay. They can argue that the sunrise is best and I can share reasons why the sunset beats it, and we are all correct.
Society has allowed, and even encouraged, so many areas of daily life to become polarized. Families and friends are being pulled in every direction by the media, advertisers and even messages in books. Some of those pulls result in verbal altercations and even physical fights and harm to property. Isn’t it nice that we can ask “sunrise or sunset” and know that both had value? Hmm…I wonder how many of those other issues might just behave in the same fashion? Today’s challenge, my friends, is to dig deep and find the connections that we often overlook when arguing over our opinions. Together, we can change the world!
