Revised Perspective

There’s a lot going on right now…. Have you ever found yourself telling that to someone?  It seems to me that we could start every conversation, at any time, with that phrase.  It’s true, isn’t it?  There is ALWAYS a lot going on.  Some of it good, some of it great, and some of it far less pleasant than we could hope for.  It’s for this reason that I don’t usually begin conversations with the aforementioned phrase.   Worse than redundancy is the fact that in so saying we are focusing on the negative aspects of our life.  Yes, we need to vent sometimes, and venting is usually about the negative.  It’s alright to talk all of that out.  Doing so is a healthy response to stressors and difficulties.

But even in the context of addressing difficulties, this phrase continues to bother me.  I feel like it drags us into the middle of pain, drama, confusion, etc.  That’s not the plane in which I want to exist. So, when I feel like there is just “a lot,” I make a conscious decision to rechannel my thinking.  One of the ways I do this is to make lists.  Once I write out all of the good, the great, and the bad, I generally find that the first two categories dwarf the last.  Listing all of the ways that life is amazing is a great reminder that there IS a LOT going on, and most of it is wonderful.

I also find that deep breathing and relaxation strategies can help me focus on the positive.  Yoga practices are great for helping find a place of calm.  this Yoga Head & Heart Reset is one of my favorites.  It’s about 24 minutes long, but the time passes quickly.  I hope you give it a shot!

So, when you find yourself sinking into the sea of “a lot,” revise your perspective.  Whether you write out your lists, or just repeat all of the good like a mantra in your mind, you’ll be surprised by the change it can bring to your day.  And, if after doing so, you still need to vent about the negatives, that’s okay.  Just remember that there is a lot of good there, too.

Enjoy the new perspective and know that you are part of my list of the “great” things in my life!  💗
